All Saints'  Aughton, East Yorkshire - 2010

This little chancel window replaces a piece of plain glass in a tatty wooden frame.  The new stonework was created at the same time by Peter Maris.

The design depicts a bird being released into the air to fly freely over the watery landscape of the surrounding Derwent Ings, the waters of which lap the churchyard wall in winter.

The Derwent Ings is a triple SSSI and is known for the profusion of bird life at different times of the year.

The base of the panel reflects the grass landscape of the Ings, and the rainbow is  reminder of God's promise of Hie eternal love, given following the flood, which seems most appropriate for this setting.
