St Boniface' church, Bunbury, Cheshire.

east window of the Ridley chapel

The window shows Christ on Easter Sunday, rising from the darkness of the tomb into the brightness of the day.  He is surrounded by the heavens as depicted by rainbows and stars.

The dove of the Holy Spirit is shown above Christ's head.

Mary Magdalene is on the left hand side reaching out to touch Him, and an angel on the right is holding the banner of resurrection which swirls around the central figure.

At the base are flowers of the garden of Gethsemane, lilies for the annunciation, daffodils for springtime and new life starting, and hawthorn - also a spring flower but the thorns recalling the crucufixion.

Hawthorn detail

(The window has fixed external iron work which could not be removed for historical reasons, even though it somewhat spoils the design).
